On Sept. 29 as part of the FNMI Professional development, staff from Sacred Heart School in Sioux Lookout, as well as staff from St. Joseph's School in Dryden had the opportunity to work with speaker, artist, and educator Elliott Doxtater-Wynn.

Fall Harvest 2017



Dagwaagin (Fall) is a time when First Nation, Metis, and Inuit peoples prepared for the long winter ahead. The different techniques used have been developed and passed down for generations.  On Thursday, October 5, 2017, Grade 5 students from Our Lady of the Way and St. Francis School were part of the Annual “Dagwaaginii Maawindoosijigewin” Fall Harvest.

The Secret Path

residential school group pic 3On Thursday, May 25th, the grade 7 and 8 students from St. Francis & Our Lady of the Way School participated in the screening of "The Secret Path" followed by a discussion panel which was held at Rainy River First Nation. Mr. Black's class has been working on Residential School projects as well as studying the Secret Path. The students' work was included as one of the exhibits for the event. Special thanks to Rainy River First Nations Indian Residential School Survivors Working Group, as well as Grand Council Treaty #3 Indian Residential School Survivors Program for supporting our learning.



Under the Same Stars: Minwaadiziwin

Students in grades 4-8 enjoyed Science North's pop-up planetarium! "Under the Same Stars: Minwaadiziwin" aims to give visitors a chance to learn about the Indigenous worldview, as well as develop an understanding of common constellations and the Anishinaabe stories that define them. Thank you, Science North!

"Students in Meghan Bourgeois' French Immersion class performed a fold hoedown version of "Les anges nos campagnes" on the kazoo - complete with a Métis jig - during the St. Michael's School Early Learning Christmas concert."
